A edição advém da tradução do livro "Pane e Vino", primeira versão do texto publicado por Ignazio Silone ainda no exílio na década de 1930. Mais tarde, em 1954, "Pane e Vino" é detalhadamente revisto por Ignazio Silone e passa a ter o título de "Vino e Pane", como confirma a carta enviada pelo autor ao seu editor Alberto Mondadori em 6 de novembro do mesmo ano, conservada nos arquivos do Centro Studi Ignazio Silone.
